Why I Build with squarespace

(And you should too)

As a web designer, I get asked all the time:

“Should I use Shopify? What about WordPress?”

While those platforms have their strengths, I consistently recommend Squarespace especially for women entrepreneurs, small businesses, nonprofits, churches, and creatives. Here’s why I build with it (and why I think it might be perfect for you, too)

  1. IT’S TRULY EASY TO USE

Squarespace is intuitive, visual, and doesn't require a background in tech or code. You can even update products, images, and layouts with the mobile app.

WordPress can be powerful, but it’s also plugin-heavy, theme-dependent, and often confusing to update.

Shopify is designed for e-commerce, but its editor isn’t user-friendly for content-heavy or service-based websites.

2. Design that’s beautiful out of the box

Squarespace offers elegant templates that make it easy to create a professional, high-end look without hiring a designer for every change.

WordPress themes often look great in demos but require serious tweaking to match your brand.

Shopify templates are mostly store-focused and often feel rigid or uninspired for content-driven pages.

3. All-in-One Tools Without the Patchwork

Squarespace includes:

  • Hosting

  • Blogging

  • SEO tools

  • Appointment scheduling

  • Email marketing

  • E-commerce

  • Member areas

  • Analytics

With WordPress, you have to piece together third-party plugins and services to get all that creating more points of failure.

With Shopify, you’ll likely need to purchase extra apps for features like digital downloads, contact forms, or advanced analytics.

4. Affordable, predictable pricing

Squarespace’s pricing is simple, transparent, and includes most features without add-ons.

WordPress might seem “free,” but costs pile up fast with hosting, themes, plugins, and maintenance (especially maintenance!).

Shopify charges monthly fees plus app fees plus transaction fees if you don’t use Shopify Payments.

Note: The prices shown in this image are subject to change.

5. IT grows with you

Need a landing page now and an online store later? No problem. Squarespace scales with you.

You can start small and expand without having to migrate platforms or hire a developer for every pivot.

Final Thoughts

I’ve seen the stress people feel trying to manage a WordPress site or shoehorn a service-based business into a Shopify template. Squarespace takes that stress away. It just works and looks good doing it.

Whether you’re launching a new business, redesigning your site, or just trying to maintain something that reflects your brand well, Squarespace gives you the flexibility, design, and ease you need to succeed.
